More than committed in research and development, Advanced Card Systems Ltd. (ACS) strongly believes in corporate social responsibility. Recently, ACS not only released its competitive one time password (OTP) generator ?the APG82 PINhandy ?for two-factor online bank authentication solution but also co-operated with De La Salle University-Manila (DLSU) to provide the first ever smart card elective course for Computer Science students in The Philippines.
ACS launches APG82 PINhandy
In order to achieve greater security for online transaction, the banking industry is moving towards the widespread implementation of two-factor authentication. The overall solution is based on the use of the EMV (Europay, MasterCard and VISA) banking card coupled with a portable OTP generator The APG82 PINhandy is specifically designed for this two-factor authentication solution.
What is APG82 PINhandy? Certified to be compliant with MasterCard CAP (Chip Authentication Programme), VISA DPA (Dynamic Passcode Authentication),EMV Level 1 and ISO7816-1/2/3, the pocket-sized APG82 PINhandy generates a one-time password based on the cryptographic key stored securely in the EMV card. It also manages “challenge-response?mode and “transaction data signing?mode.
How APG82 PINhandy works? By using two-factor authentication protocol, users insert an EMV smart card (something you have) to the APG82 PINhandy and input their Personal Identification Number (something you know) through the keypad. Then, a unique OTP is generated and displayed onto the reader’s LCD. Users can authenticate themselves by relaying this OTP to the bank via a PC keyboard or a telephone keypad.
The APG82 is your ideal companion for home banking, e-commerce, telephone banking, digital signature and identification, as well as for computer or network access control. For further details, please refer to http://www.acs.com.hk/apg82.php.
ACS offers smart card technology course in De La Salle University-Manila, The Philippines
DLSU was founded as a college in 1911 by the Brothers of the Christian Schools. Today, it is one of the top universities in the Philippines. The smart card technology course syllabus was drafted and the course is being conducted by ACS experienced professionals as an elective course for DLSU’s Computer Studies Department this year.
Currently, the students are using state-of-the-art ACS products such as the ACR128 DualBoost Smart Card Reader, the ACR38 Smart Card Reader and the ACOS3 Microprocessor Card to explore the capabilities and understand real-world applications of smart card technology. Hence, the program provides students direct exposure to smart card technology and its limitless potential.
