Advanced Card Systems Ltd. (ACS) has just launched its dual interface Contact and Contactless Smart Card Reader with the product code ACR128. With the device, you need only one reader for your contact and contactless smart card applications.

contact & contactless smart card readerACR128 is a secure, economically designed reader compliant to ISO 7816 Part 1-4 standard for the Contact smart card and to ISO 14443 Part 1-4 standard for the Contactless Card.

Convenient,Space-saving and Cost-effective
The ACR128 dual interface reader satisfies the increased demand for badging, and other personal ID applications. The ACR128 makes it possible to integrate into one device and one card the conventional separate and independent applications you have for the contact and contactless interface. For example, if you are using a contactless device for physical access control and a contact card for network access, with ACR128, you can use the same device for these two applications. Furthermore, it can also be used as embedded readers in bigger machines and systems such as vending machines, automatic fare collection systems, and public telephone systems.

What is even better is the seamless transition from Contact to Contactless Technology that this dual interface card reader enables. For example, one single reader ACR128 can support the existing contact cards used in a customer loyalty program plus the new contactless cards to be adopted in the system.


High Performance
ACR128 is PC/SC Compliant for contact and contactless interfaces and it is also CCID Compliant. It makes use of high-speed communication for PICCs (proximity or contactless cards) with maximum speed of 848 kbps for DesFire Cards. Furthermore, ACR128 has intelligent support for hybrid cards and combi cards. It is designed such that it can still detect a contactless card even if it is inserted in the contact card slot!

As different applications require different levels of security and functionality, the ACR128 has a built-in SAM card slot for added security. ACR128 uses a landing type card acceptor which minimizes card damage for more reliable card operations.
